ADAT Optical Expansion
This ongoing project is a custom ADAT system based on the open-source Betula schematic available on GitHub. While it's still a work in progress, the core schematic is laid out and the system design is starting to take shape. The unit is designed to operate at two sample rate modes: 8 channels at 48kHz or 4 channels at 96kHz, offering flexible digital I/O for recording applications.
One unique feature of the design is a dedicated through-line section for additional XLR inputs, allowing easy expansion or integration with external preamps. The project has been a deep dive into Altium Designer, giving me hands-on experience with schematic capture, layout planning, and the challenges of routing high-speed digital signals like clock and data lines in a time-critical system.
Though still in development, this project has been a rewarding technical challenge and a valuable learning experience in digital audio hardware design.
